Experimental study of the combustion process of vegetable waste oil and diesel mixture in a domestic kitchen for remote regions

The main objective of this research study is to evaluate the use of vegetable waste oil as fuel in a domestic kitchen and consists of performing experimental tests using a mixture of domestic vegetable waste oil with commercial diesel. The fuel is a mixture of diesel (100 %, 50 % and 25 %) with vegetable waste oil. This new fuel was tested in a kitchen that uses air to pressurize the fuel. The combustion and water temperatures were measured, and the combustion gases were analyzed. The results indicate that the most suitable mixture for fuel is the ratio of 75 % vegetable waste oil with 25 % diesel, which achieves an efficiency of 45.1%, compared to the efficiency of diesel fuel of 49%. Likewise, the analysis of combustion gases showed a reduction in emissions of CO2 in the mixture compared to diesel, resulting in the mixture of domestic vegetable waste oil being 0.925 % compared to pure diesel which is 1.33 %. In addition, in terms of the emissions analysis, the mixture showed an increase of 9.5 ppm compared to diesel which was 6.5 ppm. Thus, mixing the vegetable waste oil at 75 % proves to be a better alternative in terms of combustion, due to its efficiency, cost, emission of combustion gases and for the re-use of vegetable waste oils available in isolated regions lacking available resources.
