Sustainable Approach to Conduct Cathodic Disbondment Tests to Select External Anti-Corrosion Pipeline Coatings
Abstract This paper Reviews development of cathodic disbondment (CD) test standards over a century in three phases: Golden Phase (1925 – 1975); Current Phase (1975 – 2025); and Future Phase (2025 onwards).Summarizes typical standards development processes in various associations.Emphasizes the importance of developing CD test standards both from the perspectives of anti-corrosion properties and of quality control during manufacturing and production of coatings.Describes the benefits of measuring current in CD tests.Explains technical criteria for establishing maximum allowable CD test potentials and allowable disbondment radii.Highlights the importance of correlating coating performance in qualification test, production test, and in the field.Demonstrates the need to incorporate precision statements in the CD test standards.Underscores the importance of establishing qualifications of testing laboratories and technicians.
