Calculating the Sustainability Impact of Coating Systems Used to Protect Steel Structures against Corrosion
Abstract Sustainability is an important key element of business strategy today. Paint technologies that provides enhanced corrosion and mechanical properties exists and can go beyond standard performance in the market. Sustainability Scorecards provides a tool that can be used to calculate and benchmark the sustainability credentials of corrosion protection coating solutions1 A new generation of Activated Zinc rich primers with enhanced corrosion and mechanical properties has been successfully introduced in the market since 2014. This new technology delivers an efficient galvanic protection while providing a more effective barrier and inhibition effects to the coating system. The paper reviews new data available for last generation Activated Zinc rich primers anticorrosion solutions on real life and accelerated performance testing. New test results provides additional data that Activated Zinc rich primers go beyond the performance of present standard solutions in the market. A Sustainability Scorecards analysis will be presented as well demonstrating that solutions based on Activated Zinc have the best sustainability profile, based on outstanding performance and longer durability.
