Preparation, Thermal Stability, and Application of Porous Water‐Soluble Aluminum Glycerol Polymer Powder

Abstract To explore the facile preparation method of metallic polymer materials and facilitate their practical application in production, biomass glycerol aluminum (Gly–Al) metallic polymer micropowder was synthesized via a solid‐phase reaction using glycerol and aluminum chloride as raw materials, with sodium benzene sulfonate (SBS) as a catalyst. Theoretical calculation of the deprotonation reaction energy between glycerol and aluminum chloride were conducted within the framework of DFT. The structural properties of Gly–Al were systematically characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS, BET, and SEM. Its average molecular weight was confirmed with GPC system. Additionally, the thermal stability of Gly–Al and its application in the production of polyurethane (PU) synthetic leather were investigated. The results show that the deprotonation reaction of glycerol with aluminum ions mainly occurs in three ways such as C 3 H 8 O 3 ‐Al, 2C 3 H 8 O 3 ‐Al, and 3C 3 H 8 O 3 ‐2Al systems. The synthesized Gly–Al exhibits a well‐defined microcrystalline and microporous structure. When employed as filler in PU processing, it imparts exceptional thermal stability and enhanced mechanical properties to the composite material, respectively.
