Exploring the Potential of IoT and Sensor-Enabled Logistics Management for Supply Chain Optimization
The logistics sector has become increasingly tech-driven due to the growing need for streamlined supply chain management. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that has gained prominence in optimizing supply chain processes and sensor-enabled logistics management. For starters, IoT means the interconnection of certain devices with one another through The Internet to collect and transmit data in real time. The generated data can then be used to trace the location and condition of goods along the journey and monitor real-time performance from logistics operations. Sensors, however, cover everything from the temperature, humidity, and vibration of goods for their warehouse data needs. It can provide real-time actionable insights for supply chain stakeholders to make informed decisions and corrective actions by enabling IoT and sensor-enabled logistics management. Such actions will improve efficiency and reduce costs while improving customer satisfaction. IoT and sensors can also play a role in predictive maintenance, ensuring fixes or replacements are made proactively to minimize downtime disruptions in the supply chain.
