Design and Analysis of a Distribution Line Insulator for 11KV Systems: A Study of Electrical Performance and System Reliability
Reliable distribution line insulators play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transmission of electrical power across long distances. This study aims to comprehensively analyze key factors such as voltage distribution, electric field intensity, current density, and Joule heating in line insulators under different conditions, namely clean and polluted states. By introducing a thin layer of pollution on the insulator's surface, the research simulates real-world contamination scenarios. The analysis is conducted using two-dimensional finite element method (2-D FEM) software to simulate an 11 kV line insulator with a constant shed design. Detailed comparisons are made between the clean and polluted insulators, offering insights into how surface pollution can impact the performance and reliability of power transmission systems. The findings of this study can help in improving the design and maintenance strategies for insulators, ultimately enhancing grid reliability.
