Synthesis Optimization Techniques: A focus on Retiming and Multibit Insertion Strategy

This paper presents a study on optimizing area and power in the synthesis process through the use of retiming and multibit insertion techniques. Enhancing the functionality and effectiveness of digital circuits running on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) is the aim of this research project. First, the paper provides an overview of the retiming and multibit insertion techniques and their impact on circuit timing, area and power consumption. Then, a detailed analysis is presented, demonstrating the effectiveness of these techniques in reducing area and overall power consumption in various circuit designs by maintaining the time almost constant to its previous values. Experimental results show that the combined use of retiming and multibit insertion can lead to significant improvements in area and power, compared to traditional synthesis approaches. In order to improve performance and efficiency, the results emphasize how crucial it is to take these strategies into account when designing and optimizing digital circuits.
