Implementing Psychophysiological Evaluation for Cognitive Skill Improvement in Basketball Players

Enhancing cognitive skills in athletes through brain signals is a fascinating research area. In order to attain optimal performance in sports competitions, athletes must improve their cognitive abilities in addition to their physical abilities. The present study aims to enhance the mental ability of selective attention in basketball players at university. Twenty athletes took part in the research work, 10 of them received intervention (experiment group), while the other 10 received no intervention (control group). A game based on computer is applied as an intervention corresponding to selective attention skill. The players' electroencephalogram (EEG) data are collected as part of the physiological evaluation of these athletes. The d2 Test of Attention is administered to 20 players as part of the psychological evaluation in order to evaluate their selective attention skill. According to the psychophysiological findings, a greater proportion of the athletes who participated in the intervention are able to enhance selective attention skill than the players in the control group. Pearson correlation coefficient has been used to assess the test-retest reliability for the psychological as well as physiological tests. The effect of the aforementioned intervention on enhancing cognitive skill is demonstrated by the values for Pearson correlation coefficient comparing the pre-testing and post-testing outcomes.
