Design and Development of a Modular 5-Level Converter
The modular multilevel (MML) converter has become the most promising converter technology for high power applications. A MML converter has several advantages over an H-bridge multi-level converter, including the ability to scale voltage and current, the lack of a transformer, the capacity to block faults, lower filter sizes, reduced output current ripple, high efficiency, and low redundancy costs. This research presents the modular 5-level converter (M5LC) and analyses its results to verify the converter's functionality.
