Preventing the Harmful Impact of Air Quality in Classrooms Using IoT Devices
Air quality in a classroom dramatically affects the comfort level of the room’s occupants. A comfortable classroom increases the productivity of its occupants; conversely, poor air quality will decrease the productivity of its occupants, even disrupting their health. Currently, in many campuses and schools, there are still many classrooms that do not pay attention to air quality, thus reducing the quality of the learning process. This study aims to create a prototype of an IoT device to monitor air quality in a classroom that determines the comfort level of its occupants, consisting of monitoring humidity, temperature, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and dust particle levels. The system employs sensors such as DHT22 for temperature and humidity, MQ7 for carbon monoxide, MQ135 for various gases, and GP2Y1010AU0F for dust particles, all integrated with the ESP32 microcontroller. The result of this study is a prototype of an IoT device that can record air quality periodically, which is recorded and monitored on ThingSpeak. The results of the readings can be further analyzed using statistical techniques or machine learning to be used as recommendations.
