Impact of Moodle’s Usability on Student Satisfaction in Sri Lankan Universities

This research investigates the usability of Moodle, a widely used Learning Management System (LMS), in Sri Lankan universities, and its impact on student satisfaction. The study evaluates four key usability dimensions Learnability, Effectiveness, Information Quality, and Accessibility using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) on data collected from 117 student responses. The analysis identifies that Accessibility, Effectiveness, and Information Quality significantly influence student satisfaction, with Accessibility emerging as the most influential factor. This is attributed to its critical role in ensuring device compatibility and seamless navigation. Interestingly, Learnability did not show a statistically significant impact, suggesting that ease of learning Moodle’s functionalities does not directly contribute to overall satisfaction. The findings underscore the complex nature of LMS usability and the importance of adapting platform features to enhance user experience. Recommendations are provided for improving Moodle’s accessibility and effectiveness, which are key to fostering student engagement and satisfaction. This research contributes to understanding the critical usability factors that influence the digital learning experience in higher education.
