Enhanced Triple-Slot Microstrip Patch Antenna for Superior Bandwidth and Performance in X-Band and Ku-Band Systems

This paper presents the design and analysis of a dual-band triple-slot rectangular microstrip antenna optimized for X-band (9-10 GHz) and Ku-band (13.5-14.5 GHz) applications, aimed at improving performance in satellite communication and radar systems. The proposed design utilizes reactive loading with triple slots to achieve the desired resonant frequencies, enhancing impedance matching, bandwidth, and radiation efficiency. The antenna is fabricated using Rogers Duroid 5880 substrate, offering a dielectric constant of 2.2 and a thickness of 1.6 mm. Simulation results demonstrate significant improvements in return loss, gain, and efficiency, with the triple-slot design achieving return losses of -16.46 dB and -24.01 dB in the X-band and Ku-band, respectively. However, challenges remain in fully covering the entire X-band frequency range with optimal performance, suggesting further refinements in the antenna’s design. The findings underscore the potential of the triple-slot antenna for dual-band operation, making it a strong candidate for advanced communication applications that require reliable and efficient performance across both X-band and Ku-band frequencies.
