Current Characteristics with Electrode Structure and Geometric Changes of Electrochemical Gas Sensor
The present paper describes a 3D simulation to obtain a suitable electrode structure for an electrochemical gas sensor and considers the current characteristics of the sensor with respect to the geometric changes. The simulation was carried out with the aim of a fully solid-state electrochemical sensor using a solid-state polyelectrolyte Nafion, which is currently attracting the attention of researchers. Two electrode structures, flat rectangular and circular ring, which are commonly used in literature, were investigated. We have also considered the effect of the change in electrode area and gap width between electrodes for the current characteristics of the sensor. It is varied with 5, 10, 15 mm 2 in the area of working electrode and 1, 0.75, 0.5 mm in the gap width. Results show us that circular ring structure is better than flat rectangular for the sensor’s structure. It also shows the current density of the sensor increases as the area of working electrode increases and the gap width decreases. The simulations were carried out using the COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4.
