A study to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding malnutrition its prevention and control among mothers of children under five in selected rural areas of Dahod district in the year 2023
Malnutrition remains a major nutritional problem among children in India, significantly impacting their health and development. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding malnutrition, its prevention, and control, among mothers of under-five children in Karath Gamtal and Himala-Anash village, Dahod. A descriptive survey approach was employed with a non-experimental design. The sample consisted of 50 mothers selected using non-probability purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire consisting of two sections: one focusing on socio-demographic characteristics, and the other assessing the mothers' knowledge on malnutrition. The findings revealed that 72% of mothers had an average knowledge score ranging from 9 to 16 out of 25. There was no significant association found between the knowledge scores and socio-demographic variables such as age, education, occupation, family income, religion, type of family, and type of food. The study highlights the need for improving maternal knowledge about malnutrition, its effects, and preventive measures. This information can be used to design targeted health education programs for mothers, especially in rural areas, to combat malnutrition and promote better health for children.
