A study to assess the effectiveness of self-instructional module on knowledge and attitude regarding new immunization schedule among mother of under-five children at Anganwadi center Nagrala, Dahod Gujarat in the year 2023
This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a self-instructional module on knowledge and attitude regarding the new immunization schedule among mothers of under-five children at an Anganwadi center in Nagrala, Dahod, Gujarat. The objectives were to evaluate baseline knowledge, deliver an instructional module, assess post-intervention knowledge and attitude, and explore associations with demographic variables.A quantitative research approach and pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design were employed. Sixty mothers of under-five children were selected through non-probability convenience sampling. Data were gathered using a structured questionnaire, which included 30 knowledge-based items and attitude assessments. The tool’s validity and reliability were confirmed by experts, and a pilot study established feasibility. The study revealed significant improvement in knowledge scores post-intervention. The mean pre-test knowledge score was 11.40, while the post-test mean increased to 20.21. The paired t-test value was 18.652 with a p-value <0.05, indicating statistical significance. Similarly, the mean attitude score improved from 40.77 in the pre-test to 49.27 in the post-test, with a t-test value of 17.693 (p<0.05). These results affirm the effectiveness of the self-instructional module in enhancing both knowledge and attitude. The chi-square analysis showed a significant association between mothers’ education and their pre-test knowledge and attitude scores, whereas other demographic variables like age, religion, occupation, family type, income, and source of information did not show a significant impact.
