Exploring Consulting and Educational Support Elements for School Counselors in Counseling Students with School Maladjustment
Purpose: This study explores challenges faced by school counselors when counseling students with school maladjustment, as well as key elements of consulting-based educational support. Method: A survey of 70 school counselors was analyzed using frequency analysis, while Focus Group Interviews(FGI) with 17 counselors were analyzed using inductive analysis. Results: The study identified counseling challenges, the need for a consulting manual, and essential educational support components, resulting in 17 categories and 47 sub-categories. Students with school maladjustment showed psychological instability and low self-esteem. Addressing these issues requires flexible counseling methods and collaboration with parents and teachers. The necessity of preventing counselor burnout during the counseling process was also emphasized. Conclusion: The need for consulting support in areas such as tailored counseling techniques, crisis intervention training, parent-teacher collaboration, and burnout prevention was identified, informing future program development and educational support systems.
