The Evolution of Educational Commons and Strategic Implications for Community-based Education
Purpose: This study reinterprets the value of educational commons in community-based education and explores ways to overcome current limitations through an analysis of its conceptual evolution. Method: This study selected key sentences related to the concept of the educational commons from 28 domestic and international papers and conducted Network Text Analysis (NTA) on them. Results: The concept of educational commons has evolved from local cultural and indigenous knowledge programs to alternative education systems, and further into a life and learning paradigm. Educational communities have shifted from local cultural programs to commons-based schools, and finally to liberal learning networks. Thus, reimagining community-based education through the lens of educational commons is essential. Conclusion: Theoretical and practical efforts are needed to shift from the existing modern epistemology to a commons-based worldview, and Illich's OW could provide insights for developing concrete models.
