Cycloaddition reactivity of Yb@<i>D</i>3h-C74: the carbon cage size matters

The cycloaddition between Yb@ D 3h -C 74 validates that the reduced carbon cage size of the Yb-based di-metallofullerenes, from C 84 to C 80 and then to C 74 , enables increased reactivity due to the elevated HOMO energy level and the narrowed bandgap.

Abstract

The cycloaddition between Yb@ D 3h -C 74 validates that the reduced carbon cage size of the Yb-based di-metallofullerenes, from C 84 to C 80 and then to C 74 , enables increased reactivity due to the elevated HOMO energy level and the narrowed bandgap.
