Development of Modern Science in Azerbaijan in Scientometric Figures

Objective: The globalization of scientific information gradually dictates the need to create a single space of standards, and much work has been done in this direction over the past 10-15 years, but the process of integration into this system occurs at different levels in different countries and regions. In this article, we will try to identify the scientific potential of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Theoretical Framework: Since 2017, the process of integration of Azerbaijan into the international scientific and information space has been widely implemented, a lot of work has been done in the field of studying and applying international experience. The study proposes a differentiated approach depending on the specific development of scientific areas using the theoretical foundations of bibliometrics and scientometrics. Method: Access to indexed databases, indexing of scientific journals, creation of academic profiles of Azerbaijani scientists in authoritative databases, participation in international integration processes began to develop rapidly after 2017. Information processing based on classical methodology no longer works, and methods for applying modern bibliometric and scientometric methods are being put forward. Results and Discussion: The analytical framework and recommended methodology proposed in the article are published for the first time and will attract the attention of the academic community and create conditions for the concept of the national h-index to acquire a broader context. The statistics of the presented scientific results will ensure the creation of a healthy appeal in the wider academic environment. Research Application: The article studies and analyzes the results of achievements over the past three years. Scientometric tools are used to determine the level of development of various scientific fields in Azerbaijan, including trends in the development of social and humanitarian sciences. International experience and features of the methodology for determining the national Hirsch index are analyzed. Originality / Value: For the first time in Azerbaijan, bibliometric and scientometric analyses are being prepared based on published international ranking tables, which creates a solid foundation for broader integration of the country's academic environment into the global information space in the near future. Since 2023, Azerbaijan has been applying a methodology for assessing scientific data in accordance with international standards and determining the national Hirsch index ranking.
