LEACHING CHARACTERISTICS OF MAGNESIUM POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE CEMENT IN ALKALINE SOLUTION

This work investigated the leaching characteristics of magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) in alkaline solution. Alkaline leaching tests were conducted on MKPC specimens according to the ANSI/ANS 16.1 test. Leachate compositions were determined using ICP-AES and cumulative concentrations, effective diffusion coefficients and leachability indices for Mg, K, P, and B were calculated from the data. X-ray diffraction/Rietveld (XRD) was used to analyze the phase composition changes of the MKPC surface layer after leaching. For all tested materials, the major elements Mg, K, P, and B showed limited leachability (leachability index ≥9) in an alkaline solution mimicking the internal waters of radioactive waste storage facilities.
