ETYMOLOGY OF KAVAL AS A TURKISH CULTURAL HERITAGE AND DETERMINATIONS ON CONCEPTUAL DEFORMATIONS IN KAVAL EDUCATION PROCESS

As in all areas of human life, music also covers an important cross-section that includes the tools (instruments) which allow sounds to be produced in aesthetic forms. This field, scientifically known as Organology, examines and deal with issues such as instruments and their historical developments, transformations, structural characteristics in different countries, and how they produce sound. A part of this scientific process is also the conceptual (naming) representations of instruments, which are considered important based on the cultural characteristics of the countries they are found in. The name of the kaval instrument, the names of the unique parts and shapes on the kaval, and the evaluation of these concepts within the context of history and culture are important issues. In some contemporary academic studies, it has been observed that the kaval and many related concepts are being renamed with terms that do not traditionally, culturally, or scientifically represent it. This study examines this situation and makes some observations and suggestions regarding the correct use of certain terms in the historical, cultural, and academic process within the world of the kaval. Keywords: Kaval, Culture, Cultural Conceptualisation of Kaval
