Jet substructure analysis for distinguishing left- and right-handed couplings of heavy neutrino in W′ decay at
The search for heavy <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><a:msup><a:mi>W</a:mi><a:mo>′</a:mo></a:msup></a:math> bosons in their decay modes to a lepton and a heavy neutrino offers a promising avenue for probing new physics beyond the Standard Model. This work focuses on such a signature with an energetic lepton plus a fat jet, originating from the heavy neutrino and containing a lepton. We have employed the jet substructure techniques to isolate the embedded lepton as a subjet of the fat jet. The lepton subjet fraction (<c:math xmlns:c="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><c:mi>L</c:mi><c:mi>S</c:mi><c:mi>F</c:mi></c:math>) and lepton mass drop (<e:math xmlns:e="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><e:mi>L</e:mi><e:mi>M</e:mi><e:mi>D</e:mi></e:math>) variables constructed from the lepton subjet help in separating the signal region from the background. We further study the polarization properties of the <g:math xmlns:g="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><g:msup><g:mi>W</g:mi><g:mo>′</g:mo></g:msup></g:math> coupling to the lepton and heavy neutrino through the decay products of the neutrino. Instead of relying on a specific model, we employ generic couplings and explore the discrimination power. Jet substructure-based angular variables <i:math xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><i:mrow><i:msub><i:mrow><i:mi>z</i:mi></i:mrow><i:mrow><i:mo>ℓ</i:mo></i:mrow></i:msub></i:mrow></i:math>, <k:math xmlns:k="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><k:msub><k:mi>z</k:mi><k:mi>θ</k:mi></k:msub></k:math>, and <m:math xmlns:m="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><m:msub><m:mi>z</m:mi><m:mi>k</m:mi></m:msub></m:math> are combined to form BDT scores to obtain a better separation power between the left-chiral (<o:math xmlns:o="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><o:mi>V</o:mi><o:mo>−</o:mo><o:mi>A</o:mi></o:math>) and right-chiral (<q:math xmlns:q="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><q:mi>V</q:mi><q:mo>+</q:mo><q:mi>A</q:mi></q:math>) coupling configurations. By using <s:math xmlns:s="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><s:mi>C</s:mi><s:msub><s:mi>L</s:mi><s:mi>s</s:mi></s:msub></s:math> type profile likelihood estimator, we could achieve <u:math xmlns:u="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><u:mrow><u:mn>1.6</u:mn><u:mi>σ</u:mi><u:mo>−</u:mo><u:mrow><u:mn>2.8</u:mn><u:mi>σ</u:mi></u:mrow></u:mrow></u:math> significance of excluding one coupling configuration in favor of the other.
