Deep Learning Insights from EEG: Correlating Cognitive and Emotional Strengths*
The study examines the correlation between different mental processes with the use of EEG as a technology for reliable and valid results. The aim is to establish relationships between different mental concepts and how an individual can benefit from learning about their cognitive and emotional strengths. EMOTIV EPOC (14 channels) is used to conduct EEG across 956 participants, who are analyzed on 4 main dimensions: learning styles, cognition, mental efforts and emotional states. Deep Learning (DL) approach detects the patterns of the brain activity, during performing tasks shown on a computer screen. With the use of DL, the NEMA AI software provides information about the neural oscillations. Stronger correlation has been observed in audio-video (A-V) learning style, thinking-(mental) association (T-A) cognitive dimension, and tiredness-stress (T-S) emotional state, across all age groups. The variation of gender in relation to the performance metrics represents closer collaboration between interest and relaxation across the four age brackets, associating high relaxation with high interest.
