Application for Real-time Picture Quality Monitoring of Digital Television DVB-T2

This study aims to develop a real-time monitoring system to assess the signal and picture quality of DVB-T2 digital television broadcasts, addressing limitations such as one-way communication and lack of interactivity, which often cause picture distortions in remote areas with signal disruptions. The system uses a Raspberry Pi 4 with a DVB-T2 TV Hat module to capture broadcasts and evaluate picture quality using noreference metrics, such as the blocking metric, without requiring an original reference image. The measurement process involves capturing images at a rate of 2 images per second, analyzed using Python and FFmpeg, with the results displayed in real-time via a web-based application. Testing on 100 video samples showed a strong correlation between subjective and objective assessments. The ability to process and analyze data in real-time makes the system suitable for continuous broadcast quality monitoring, especially in areas prone to signal issues. The system has proven effective in monitoring digital television broadcast picture quality in realtime, with potential for further development by integrating additional quality metrics or utilizing more powerful edge computing hardware to enhance processing speed and efficiency, enabling the system to handle larger data sets and operate more efficiently in various conditions.
