Electric Bus System Simulator for Optimizing and Expanding Existing Electric Bus Transport Systems

We present the Electric Bus System Simulator (EBSS), a software tool engineered to optimize the operations of electrified bus fleets, tailored for the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). EBSS maximizes electric bus (e-bus) utilization by maintaining a healthy state of charge (SoC), minimizing idle time, and efficiently using chargers. The system features a predictive model using real-time telemetry data from buses to estimate SoC over time, analyze charge loss patterns, and correlate them with specific routes and times. Integrating data from OCPP connections, the EBSS tracks charger availability and usage. The simulator's real-time data architecture enables adaptive AI models to refine predictions of route-specific and individual bus power needs. This scheduling strategy optimizes route assignments and charger management, enhancing system efficiency. Additionally, EBSS serves as a platform for testing and simulating fleet expansions, providing actionable insights into real-world system performance and supporting future growth initiatives for electrified transport.
