Research on Sharpening Enhancement Techniques for Trace Images
This paper investigates sharpening enhancement techniques for trace images, aiming to improve the identification capabilities of these images at crime scenes. It employs adaptive sharpening algorithms and gradient sharpening algorithms for preprocessing various types of trace images. Variance-based adaptive sharpening automatically adjusts sharpening parameters based on the specific content of the image to achieve optimal sharpening effects. It dynamically applies sharpening filters by analyzing local features in the image, such as edges and textures, thereby enhancing the details and clarity of the image. In gradient sharpening, the Laplacian operator is a commonly used image edge detection operator that can effectively highlight edge information in the image. During the sharpening process, the Laplacian operator enhances edge contrast by calculating the second-order derivative of the image, making the image edges clearer and the colors more vivid. Although adaptive sharpening can also improve image clarity to a certain extent, its effect is slightly less pronounced than that of Laplacian sharpening when dealing with complex trace images. Laplacian sharpening excels in highlighting the contrast between trace images and background images, effectively enhancing the clarity of image edges and the vividness of colors. This technique lays a solid foundation for subsequent edge detection and feature extraction. The innovation of this study lies in the systematic comparison of multiple sharpening algorithms and their effectiveness in trace image processing, providing new ideas and methodologies for research in related fields.
