Exploring Automated Frequency Coordination System for 6 GHz Wi-Fi in Taiwan
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) opens the usage of the 6 GHz frequency band for Wi-Fi to accommodate the growing service demands. To better coordinate the licensed services, the Automatic Frequency Coordination (AFC) system is developed so that Wi-Fi can utilize the available channels over the 6 GHz frequency band for service delivery without interfering with the existing licensed services. In this paper, we investigate and resolve the challenge of deploying the AFC system in Taiwan via the Open AFC project. Specifically, a data format conversion procedure is proposed to integrate Taiwan’s available terrain data into the AFC system. Current results not only show the compatibility and precision of the conversion but also illustrate the possibility of deploying the AFC system for Wi-Fi 6E/7 in Taiwan.
