Revolutionizing Phobia Treatment: The Role of Augmented Reality in Exposure Therapy
Traditional exposure treatments for phobias encounter strong challenges and limitations. Effective conventional treatments are usually passive, have low engagement, control and adaptability. The present research is suggesting that technology in the form of augmented reality be added to exposure treatment to augment it by offering an immersive, interactive and customizable environment. This article discusses the theoretical rationale, design issues and empirical findings related to adding AR functionalities to exposure protocols. Findings show that AR enhances the efficacy of treatment through increased engagement, personalization, and realism compared to traditional methods. Its reduced level of anxiety symptoms for exposure treatment probably makes the difference due to its high level of realism and a more personalized approach, which will increase the effectiveness of treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction. In discussing the historical context of exposure therapy and AR technology improvements, it becomes evident that AR might very well broaden the reach and enhance the effectiveness of conventional treatment protocols in a manner that holds good promise for attenuating current limitations.
