METAMORFOSEANDO DORES: Impactos da violência sobre a saúde mental e a corporeidade de mulheres

Violence against women is a form of gender-based violence, rooted in patriarchal ideologies that permeate society. This research aims to comprehend the relationship between intimate partner violence, mental health, and corporeity in women. This qualitative, cartographic study was conducted with six women receiving psychosocial support from the Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response Center (NUGEN) at the Pará State Public Defender's Office. Data was collected using the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) and semi-structured interviews. Findings indicate that violence exacerbates a process of diminishing women's sense of self, transforming their bodies into survivors and leaving them feeling confined and dispossessed. Psychological distress intensifies after violent episodes, with participants frequently reporting feelings of worthlessness, emptiness, hopelessness, and a lack of perspective. These findings underscore the profound impact of violence on women's lives, affecting their life stories, relationship with their bodies, and mental health. Therefore, providing a welcoming environment, active listening, spaces for expression, and emotional availability are essential in addressing situations of vulnerability. Psychosocial professionals can play a crucial role in supporting women who have experienced violence.
