THE FEELING OF PRESENCE IN THE POEM THE SMALL STONE BY ELIA ABI MADI
Diaspora literature is a type of modern Arabic literature that originated at the hands of Arab writers in non-Arab countries who immigrated to it at the beginning of the twentieth century for several reasons. Many poets emerged from them and left a clear mark on modern Arabic literature, especially poetry, and Elijah Abu Madi was one of them. This poet gained great fame and a high position in modern Arabic literature, and more than one researcher addressed him, whether by introducing him and his poetry or by explaining his importance and literary status in the modern era. This poet was distinguished by the fact that he lived as two immigrants, one of whom was an Arab, which was evident in his travel to Egypt at an early age, and the other was a foreigner, which was evident in his travel to America, and his poetry was distinguished by its philosophical tendency in addition to its narrative style. There are reasons that prompted me to address him, including that he is one of the eminent poets of the diaspora, and that he is one of the poets whom I studied in my doctoral dissertation, and that his poetry is characterized by smoothness, ease, depth of thought, and realistic treatment of its topics. The poem (The Small Stone) was chosen because it deals with an existential problem. Realistic, continuous, present in every place, time, and society, especially the Arab societies that began searching for their identity after their separation from the Ottoman Empire. The problem of feeling is a collective and individual problem at the same time. The study aims to highlight the realistic value of this topic, and to call for treating it realistically in addition to the artistic and philosophical treatment that the poet introduced in this poem. The importance of this study is evident in its motives and objectives. In his research, the researcher uses methods of description, analysis, induction, and deduction, benefiting from the sciences of grammar, morphology, and rhetoric. To reveal the secrets of this valuable literary work .
