Heat Transfer Enhancement of Solar Collector using Helical Coil Heat Exchanger

This paper investigates the effectiveness of using helical coils in heat exchangers for solar thermal collector systems in remote areas of Iraq. Heat exchangers are devices that transfer thermal energy between two or more liquids or solid surfaces and liquids, solid particles and liquids through thermal contact at different temperatures. Solar energy is an important natural resource that can be exploited to produce hot water for daily use in green buildings, and it is also a sustainable source of energy that contributes to adapting to climate change. In this research, a flat solar collector with a spiral heat exchanger was used, and measurements and predictions were made to determine the average solar radiation. The results showed that solar panels can be effective in providing hot water to buildings. The results also showed that using helical coils inside the tank improves the solar dynamics and delays the process with increasing temperatures, as the percentage increased from 1% to 2% at the lowest temperatures, and from 1% to 8% at the highest temperatures. Also, the useful power increased by 10%, reaching 390 watts and reaching 440 watts at 1 pm using the coil inside the tank.
