Aquaponics System Implementation in Catfish Farming at Labruk Lor Village, Lumajang District, Lumajang Regency

Decreasing water quality and disease outbreaks are negatively affecting catfish farming in Labruk Lor village, Lumajang district, leading to reduced productivity and income for catfish farmers. The 2022 Service Doctoral Grant programaims to address issues by offering counseling, training, and optimizingyard use through aquaponic activities within the Sustainable Food Homes (RPL) program, including demonstration plots. This project is a collaboration between BUMDES Labruk Lor Village, the fish cultivator group "Mina has been our PeAgung Mandiri" from Labruk Lor villageand the Lumajang Regency Fisheries Service. The methods used in this activity involve socializationand direct engagement with activity partners with the help of the Lumajang Regency Fisheries Service, training and practical application outreach on aquaponic cultivation systems, and monitoring and evaluating the success of the activities. This activity involves students participating in thematic KKN activities. The outcomes of the activities are: (1) Catfish farmers' well-being improves through aquaponics activities, (2) The community's nutritional requirements are fulfilled with fresh vegetables and high protein catfish products from aquaponics, (3) Students and their teams contribute by offering digital marketing ideas and producing processed catfish products for the community. Utilizingaquaponics for economic growth can yield the cultivation of 6,984 catfish in 3 m diameter tanks, with an 80% survival rate resulting in a harvest of 6,400 fish weighing 600-700 kg. Vegetables can be harvested 8-10 times per cycle, leading to increased net profit and economic improvement.
