On the Relationship between the Communicative Function of Intonation in English and its other Functions Summary The article deals with the decisive importance of intonation during communication. The communicative function of intonation is considered as one of the important functions. The essence of this function is that intonation is related to normative units during the speech process, that is, words and word combinations. In other words, this function turns words and word combinations into communicative units, creates a connection between the participants of the communication process. At the same time, it also serves to make this connection continuous, to emphasize the idea and to indicate the end of the speech act. In addition to the communicative function of intonation, its other functions are investigated in the article. And the relationships between these functions are briefly mentioned. The article also talks about the importance of the melody and sentence stress components of intonation in the conversation process.
