Structural analysis and reconstruction of box culvert based on point cloud

Box culverts are indispensable structural elements within urban underground infrastructure, playing a pivotal role not only by providing reliable water conduits across geographical obstacles but also by fostering urban infrastructure development and sustainable urbanization. However, incomplete or inaccurate information of box culverts presents formidable challenges in management and maintenance, with substantial implications for urban governance and the economy. This study introduces a 3D modeling framework based on point cloud data, incorporating modules for data processing, structural analysis, and topological reconstruction to achieve high-precision Building Information Model (BIM) reconstruction of as-built box culverts. Experimental results reveal that the residuals of outline fitting are predominantly confined to a range of 0 to 0.01 meters, thereby substantiating the effectiveness of proposed method for feature extraction. The topological reconstruction method also proved to be applicable. This study offers valuable technological support for the digitalized management of box culverts and demonstrates extensive potential for practical application.
