Conceptual Metaphor as One of the Main Directions of Cognitive Linguistics Summary The article deals with the theory of conceptual metaphor. It is noted that the use of metaphor not only allows the author to make the text more lively and expressive and thereby attract the attention of the addressee. Metaphor performs a vital cognitive-pragmatic function, being a powerful tool for influencing the consciousness of the addressee and transforming his political picture of the world. In addition, the use of metaphor and various ways of highlighting it in the text ensure its semantic and emotional integrity.
