Pomiędzy życiem a śmiercią. Wczesna twórczość A. Miré
The article is devoted to the early works of Alexandra Moisiejeva (pseudonym A. Miré) – not a very well‑known writer, especially to readers from outside Russia, She was a writer of the so‑called Silver Age, whose fate was tragic. The author’s research is focused on a few short stories from the collection Life (1904): Life, Without a road, Loneliness, The violin player, At the azure sea, On the bank of the sea. These may be described as impressionist‑decadent. Their leitmotif is the symbolic presentation of the struggle between life and death. In her first collection of short stories, Miré describes scenes from the lives of ordinary, frequently anonymous people who found themselves in difficult situations. However, her reflections on human existence, death, loneliness, love etc. are here at the foreground. They are shown through symbolic images, ones that repeat in many of her works (such as the sea, the sun, the moon etc.), as well as through the impressionist play on colours, light and shadow, sounds and smells. In this way the writer expresses her creed: the will to fight and her objection against all sorts of adversities, as well as her love and apotheosis of life.
