Magnetic field induced arrested state in TbMn6Sn6

The quasi-two-dimensional kagome ferrimagnet TbMn6Sn6 is investigated for thermo-remanent magnetization and Hall effects. Upon cooling under a moderate magnetic field, the sample attains a magnetization value close to saturation magnetization. Upon heating in a very small magnetic field, or even in zero field, the sample continues to maintain the large value of magnetization, which eventually diminishes distinctly at around 200 K manifesting an ultrasharp jump. A similar feature is also observed in the Hall resistivity, which holds its saturation value when heated back in the zero field after being field-cooled. The ultrasharp jump in magnetization is also reflected in our Hall data. The observed thermo-remanence in magnetization and Hall resistivity in the arrested state can be attributed to strong uniaxial anisotropy and a probable cluster-glass-like phase. The spins eventually get de-arrested at 200 K through a sharp jump due to the weakening of the magnetic anisotropy and enhanced thermal fluctuations.
