Rhabdomyolysis with Severe Creatine Phosphokinase Elevation and Acute Kidney Injury: A Case Report and Review of Rare Causes
Abstract Rhabdomyolysis is identified by elevated creatine kinase (CK or creatine phosphokinase) levels and can be caused by both traumatic and nontraumatic factors. We present a case of recurrent rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure requiring short-term hemodialysis, where the patient’s CK and creatinine levels exceeded 600,000 units/L and 10.10 mg/dL, respectively, within 4 days of hospitalization. We also explore potential causes of recurrent rhabdomyolysis and the social determinants of health that may have contributed to the patient’s condition.
