Spider Silk: Rapid, Bottom‐Up Self‐Assembly of MaSp1 into Hierarchically Structured Fibers Through Biomimetic Processing (Adv. Funct. Mater. 15/2025)
Biomolecular Condensates Spider dragline silk's exceptional mechanics and eco-friendly production inspire smart materials. In article number 2408175, Ali D. Malay, Keiji Numata, and co-workers show that major ampullate spidroin 1 (MaSp1) undergoes liquid–liquid phase separation with kosmotropic ions. This biomimetic system enables the artificial formation of insoluble MaSp1 fibers, where mechanical deformation induces β-sheet structures.
