Identification of a neural tube defect in embryoscopic study for pregnancy loss
Pregnancy loss has a significant emotional impact on couples, with many seeking explanations for recurrent miscarriages. Despite investigations, many cases remain unexplained. We report a case of a 39-year-old woman with recurrent pregnancy loss and a non-viable twin gestation at 7 weeks + 6 days, in which hystero-embryoscopy was performed. A neural tube defect was observed, and cytogenetic analysis disclosed trisomy 18 and 21. This technique provides direct visualization of embryo morphology, allows for cytogenetic sampling of embryo and trophoblastic tissue, and treats retained products of conception. It enhances diagnosis and reduces risks, benefiting couples facing recurrent pregnancy loss.
