Vanadium-doped induced multicomponent oxide NiFeVOX@NF with tremella-like structure for efficient overall water splitting

The design of novel bifunctional electrocatalysts with high activity, low cost, and stability is of great significance for the wide application of hydrogen energy . Heteroatom incorporation is an effective method to disrupt the crystal morphology of the host, adjusting the electronic state and reducing the reaction energy barrier. In this paper, NiFe-LDH@NF was used as the precursor, and the multi-component oxide catalyst NiFeVO X @NF was prepared by hydrothermal reaction using V element doping and co-oxidation technology. The unique tremella flower-like nanostructure provides a wider substrate area for NiFeVO X @NF to reveal more active sites. Due to the successful construction of the multicomponent synergistic structure, the HER and OER overpotentials of NiFeVO X @NF at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 were 145 mV and 144 mV, and the catalyst also possessed excellent long-term stability. Moreover, the NiFeVO X @NF (anode)//NiFeVO X @NF (cathode) electrode achieves efficient total hydrolysis, and a current density of 10 mA cm −2 was implemented at a voltage of only 1.62 V. The addition of V effectively adjusted the electronic structure of NiFeVO X @NF, accelerated the hydrolysis kinetics, promoted the adsorption and desorption processes of H, and largely reduced the reaction potential. This work highlights the role of V doping and co-oxidation in improving catalytic activity and proposes a new method for preparing high-performance overall water-splitting catalysts. • NiFeVOx@NF with excellent electrolytic water performance was prepared. • V doping and co-oxidation synergistically promoted charge transfer. • The special tremella-like structure provides efficient active sites.
