Implementação da unidade de situação em resposta às chuvas intensas no Rio de Janeiro

The importance of a dedicated unit for assertive data communication to disaster response agencies has been widely discussed. This descriptive study reports the experience of implementing the Situation Unit (USIT) during the intense rains from November 2023 to March 2024 in Rio de Janeiro. A total of 96 events were recorded, with Flooding being the most prevalent, particularly in February, with Nova Iguaçu being the most affected municipality. The average number of displaced and homeless individuals was 109 and 2,037, respectively. After data processing, validation, and consolidation, agencies were able to revise their action plans and supply strategies for the most affected areas more efficiently. The USIT proved effective by integrating technology and real-time monitoring of socioeconomic resources, enhancing disaster management.
