STATISTICAL METHODS IN MANAGEMENT DECISION MAKING: EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE OF TRAINING FOR UKRAINIAN STUDENTS

The purpose of the study is to analyse the European experience of teaching statistical methods in management and to identify opportunities for its adaptation to domestic educational practice. The study of statistical methods is an important component of the training of modern managers, as it allows them to make informed decisions based on data analysis, forecasting and modelling of business processes. The study covers the following aspects: the role of statistical methods in managerial decision-making, current approaches to their teaching in European universities, difficulties faced by students, and potential ways to integrate best educational practices into the national system of managerial training. In Europe, there is a tendency to integrate statistics with other disciplines, which allows students to see its practical application in economics, finance, marketing and management. An analysis of the curricula of leading European universities (Germany, France, Poland, Czech Republic, and the Baltic States) shows that the teaching of statistical methods is based on the principles of practical orientation, the use of digital tools, and the active involvement of students in research projects. Modern software tools for statistical analysis (SPSS, R, Python, Tableau, Power BI), as well as methods of big data processing and machine learning are used. Students learn to work with real business cases, apply methods of regression analysis, time series analysis, clustering, factor and discriminant analysis. The main difficulties in studying statistics are the complexity of mathematical concepts, insufficient preparation of students to work with quantitative methods, and lack of analytical thinking skills. In this regard, European universities are actively using interactive teaching methods, including case studies, simulation modelling, project-based learning, group work, and collaboration with real companies. This approach promotes the development of critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the use of statistics to inform management decisions. Adapting the European experience of teaching statistical methods in domestic higher education institutions will help to improve students' analytical competencies and prepare them for the current challenges of the labour market. Integration of digital tools, focus on practical training, and active cooperation with the business environment will help to train specialists capable of making effective decisions in the face of high uncertainty and dynamic economic development.
