Morpho-Physiological Characters and Their Relationship with the Yield and Quality of Improved Rice Lines on Upland

Abstract Tinggong is a local rice cultivated in the southwest region of Aceh with a soft texture and good adaptability. However, plant characteristics need to be improved. Improvement of local Tinggong rice was carried out by IRBB27. The purpose of this study was to determine morpho-physiological characters and their relationship with the yield and quality of improved rice lines in upland cultivation systems. The study was conducted at the Experimental Garden (5°34′01.6″N-95°22′24.4″ E), as well as at the Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding Department of Agrotechnology, Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam Banda Aceh, from November 2023 to May 2024. This study used a Randomized Block Design for morpho-physiological character analysis of improved rice lines with 3 replications. The improved rice lines consist of: P1: T35.7.5.13.5; P2: T35.7.5.16.4; P3: T35.12.8.2.1; P4: T.35.7.3.1.2; P5: T.36.10.3.19.1; P6: T.38.1.4.4.11; and P7: T35.7.5.1.3. The improved lines did not show a significant difference in Chlorophyll content. All improved lines could be classified as upright leaf angles based on their leaf angle except for the T36.10.3.19.1 line. The perspective lines to be developed further were T35.7.3.1.2 with 2.84% empty grain and T36.10.3.19.1 with 6% chalky rice. Chlorophyll content 100 DAT and flag leaf angle did not correlate with the yield and quality of improved rice lines.
