Quality of fresh semen from Aceh cattle and Aceh crossbreed cattle at BPTU-HPT Indrapuri, Aceh
Abstract This research aims to determine the quality of semen Aceh cattle and Aceh crossbred. The results showed that the semen volume of Aceh cattle was 4 ± 0.71 ml, Belia cattle 5.45 ± 3.61 ml, and Waceh 7 ± 1.41 ml. The fresh semen obtained from Aceh cattle and Aceh crossbred cattle ranged in color from milky white to creamy white—and ranged in consistency from medium to thick. The average sperm motility of Aceh cattle was 76.91 ± 3.20%, while that of Belia cattle 83.20 ± 1.19%, and Waceh cattle 75.59 ± 5.98%. The average percentage viability of fresh semen for Aceh cattle was 78.75 ± 3.62%, Belia cattle 84.16 ± 2.17%, and Waceh cattle 76.73 ± 2.59%. The average abnormality rate for Aceh cattle was 15 ± 6.40%, Belia cattle 21.31 ± 3.42%, and Waceh cattle 20.23 ± 1.71%. From these results, it can be concluded that each type of cattle has different fresh semen quality. Belia cattle is higher than that of Aceh and Waceh cattle. However, the abnormalities in the semen of Belia and Waceh cattle do not meet the criteria for acceptable fresh semen, indicating that the best quality fresh semen is from Aceh cattle.
