Factors influencing farmer motivation in nutmeg farming in South Aceh Regency
Abstract This study aims to analyse the factors that influence farmers’ motivation in nutmeg farming in South Aceh Regency. This study uses a quantitative survey method with a questionnaire. The study population includes 12,924 farmers in 5 sub-districts with the highest number of farmers. We determined a sample of 370 respondents using proportional stratified random sampling, based on the Krejie and Morgan table. The results showed that sustainability mindset, extension, understanding of pests, assistance, and income significantly influenced the motivation of nutmeg farmers in South Aceh. The main factor with the most significant influence is the sustainability mindset, which motivates farmers to continue farming despite challenges. Agricultural extension provides information and technical support that improves farmers’ skills and confidence, while a good understanding of pests helps reduce the risk of crop losses, which in turn increases farmer motivation. Support from adequate assistance and income also provides strong economic incentives for farmers, which will also increase farmer motivation. Overall, these variables help each other in creating a supportive environment for nutmeg farmers to survive and increase production sustainably.
