The Temperature Effect on the Spectral Gain of Different Type Co-Doped EDFAs

This experimental study investigates temperaturedependent gain variations within the conventional C-band of Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) over a temperature range of −10°C to 60°C. Gain changes were measured and compared for commercially available erbium-doped fibers ( EDFs) and rare-earth codoped EDFs (specifically, hafnia-bismuth and zirconium co-doped fibers). Our results demonstrate that commercial EDF exhibits greater temperature sensitivity in the 15401550 nm wavelength range compared to the co-doped fibers. Furthermore, the temperature-dependent gain coefficients for commercial EDF and co-doped fibers display opposite trends across the remaining C-band wavelengths. These findings have implications for the design and operation of EDFAs in environments with fluctuating temperatures.
