Assessment of Li-Ion Battery Performance for Electric Vehicles using Different Drive Cycles
Electric vehicles have become a critical requirement of the future to help in reducing carbon emission. Nevertheless, numerous limitations exist associated with the extensive adoption of electric vehicles. One of the main limitations is the proper choice and sizing of battery packs for the electric vehicle. The typical cost of battery for an electric vehicle accounts for about 40% of the total cost of the vehicle. This paper is primarily focused on Li-ion battery modeling and simulation studies of a 2RC model of a Liion cell using difference drive cycle. This work also describes the development and sizing i.e. parameters calculation of a lithium-ion battery pack for use in electric vehicle applications. The modelling of an electric vehicle based on the battery is considered and simulated in MATLAB Simulink where different graphs and characteristics for the electric vehicle using the calculated battery parameters are obtained. The purpose of consideration of this battery model is to investigate the battery capability and their behaviour across the different drive cycles. Finally, the assessment of Li-ion battery is reported in this work by considering various drive cycles. It is also observed that the FTP-75 is more suited for practical implementation among all the considered drive cycles.
