Performance Comparison of Permanent Magnet and Permanent Magnet Less Special Machines using Electromagnetic Analysis for Electric Vehicle Applications
Electrical vehicles (EVs) have emerged as the most indispensable medium of transport globally due to their low running, and maintenance cost, lowest carbon footprint, tax benefits, high energy efficiency, and very convenient to charge at home. Permanent Magnet (PM) and PM Less electric motors are used extensively in E-Vehicles because of high power and torque density, lower rotor inertia, and higher efficiency. Therefore, this paper analyzed four different EV motors such as interior permanent synchronous motor (IPMSM), PM brushless DC motor (PMBLDC), PM less switched reluctance motor (PMSRM) and universal motor. The investigation of speed-torque, efficiency, power and performance characteristics is analyzed for all four motors. These performance characteristics are analysed using Finite Element Analysis in the ANSYS MAXWELL simulation software. The results are compared and humble attempts have been made to ensure the most optimum and economical special machine for EV applications.
