Adaptive Sliding Mode MPPT Control for Grid-Tied Micro Inverters in Dynamic Conditions
In recent years, microinverters have become essential components in grid-connected applications, particularly for solar photovoltaic (PV) integration. This study investigates the implementation of Sliding Mode Control (SMC), a robust and reliable control method, for converter regulation based on PV system characteristics. Specifically, this research utilizes a DC-DC converter featuring an impedance source and decoupled control architecture. The proposed control approach minimizes ripple across the DC-link capacitor and enhances grid-side power quality. Both simulation and experimental analyses validate the efficacy of the adaptive sliding mode-like control strategy, demonstrating a superior dynamic response through rapid adaptation to fluctuating environmental conditions, thereby maximizing energy extraction from the PV array. Furthermore, the decoupled control design enables precise, independent regulation of the AC and DC components, resulting in improved power quality and reduced voltage ripple within the microgrid environment.
